Research and summarise the following and explain how they link to the film Black Panther:
Harlem Renaissance was an expression of writing, music and art that occurred in 1920s – 1930s in New York and it was known as the ‘new negro movement’. The movement brought notice to the great works of African American art, and inspired and influenced future generations of African American artists and intellectuals. Harlem Renaissance links to Black Panther as they are a tribe from Africa which represents strength and power and they feely express themselves.
The Black Panthers was a party for self-defence, it was founded 54 years ago in 1966. The original purpose of the party was to patrol African American neighbours and protect residents from acts of police brutality. They were promoting social change in communities. This links to Black Panther as it shows the history to be black in both America and Africa.
Afrofuturism is linked to black panther as Wakanda is an African nation the rest of the world believes to be poor but is secretly rich. Afrofuturism is a movement that explores black identify and black culture
Oscarssowhite is a hashtag created in 2015 used to call out the lack of diversity especially people of colour. Before the famous hashtag, 92% of top film directors were men and 86% of top film featured white actors in the lead roles. A pattern which dated back to decades ago however, black panther won Oscars and helped reemphasis the movement.
