Black Panther - mainstream

List and explain the elements that make Black Panther a typical mainstream film.

GENRE

Black Panther is a popular movie, as it is a part of the Marvel franchise and it is an action and adventure. Action and adventure are very appealing to the audience as it increases your awareness and has you on the edge of your seat, as it is normally very unexpected.

STARS

The actor who plays Black Panther is Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick is well-known American actor who has featured in Captain America: Civil War, 21 Bridge and Get On Up. However, Chadwick Boseman sadly passed on the 28thAugust 2020. I believe that the stars increased the budget and profits of the films due to the film being so popular. The size of audience expanded due to their mostly being ethnic minority stars, it creates movements such as: BLM and it has shown Afrofuturism.

 

AUDIENCE

The audience is mainstream and very wide in Black Panther and it attracts a range of different people as they show an interest to superhero’s, Marvel, Afrofuturism and black panther movement. There is a pre-existing audience due to Marvel fans and Black Panther being a part of the Marvel and Chadwick being featured in Captain America: Civil War. There isn’t a specific

 

 

 

FRANCHISE  

Black Panther belongs in the Marvel franchise; however Black Panther 2 is expected to be released in May 2022. This maximises profits and audience due to it being a part of Marvel.

 

 PRODUCER

The director of Black Panther is Ryan Coogler and the two producers are Kevin Feige and David Grant. 

 

OWNERSHIP

Black Panther was produced by Marvel which is apart of Walt Disney Studios. Walt Disney Studios is the biggest production company and owns plenty of other assets.

 

BUDGET

Black Panther’s budget was $200million and had over $1.3billion worldwide due to Black Panther being apart of the Marvel superheroes.

 

FUNDING AND PLANNING

The money came off Disney, due to them being one of the biggest production companies and creating successful and popular films. Black Panther was one of the black characters in comics as he is a member of the royal family in the fictional African country of Wakanda.

 

MARKETING CAMPAIGN

There was a large marketing campaign to promote Black Panther, they created a film poster which maximised audience by Intriguing the audience with several different enigma codes seen in the film poster and trailer. Therefore, this made the audience excited and eager to watch Black Panther due to so many unseen and hidden enigma codes.

 

DISTRIBUTION

There was a large number of cinemas targeted to promote the new mainstream film and was released on different formats and platforms to engage the audience further.

 

PROFITS AND RECEPTION

As of May 22, 2018, Black Panther has made $1.344 billion. The box office has likely increased due to that data being two years ago.

 

LINKS TO OTHER PRODUCTS 

There is a soundtrack to Black Panther with several songs such as; Wakanda Origins, Warrior Falls and Waterfall fight with some of the songs featuring Kendrick Lamar. It has been announced there will be a sequel to be released in May 2022, this will help keep the audience interested in the ongoing story that Black Panther must tell by fighting enemies and saving his people. There is loads of merchandise available online throughout different websites from tops to hoodies.
